Welcome to my campaign web site!
I have been privileged to have served Rochester for the past ten years in the Minnesota House of Representatives and look forward to another term.
The past two years have been some of the most productive legislative sessions in recent memory. With DFL majorities in the House and Senate and a DFL governor, the budget was balanced honestly, money was added to the rainy day fund, and property tax refunds were increased for many homeowners and renters. Schools were repaid, all-day kindergarten was funded for every Minnesota student, and funding was increased. The minimum wage was increased, and same-sex couples got the freedom to marry. Minnesota's budget now has a surplus and more Minnesotans are working than ever before.
For the past two years I have served as chair of the House’s Health and Human Services Policy Committee, one of the busiest committees in the legislature. My committee has made progress on an extraordinary number of complex issues, such as expansion of Medicaid, creation of MNsure, improving oversight of health professionals, improving access to mental health services, restoring and strengthening our newborn screening program, and improving health equity for all Minnesotans—to name just a few.
I am pleased to have a positive working relationship with the Republican members of my committee. Because of this relationship, the omnibus health and human services policy bill—which I sponsored-passed my committee with unanimous support and was approved by the whole House and Senate with wide bipartisan margins.
